The Council’s general conditions of employment apply including – 8 statutory holidays, 27 days annual leave and flexible working (pro-rata). The post-holder will assist the Team Leader (TL) and Deputy Team Leader (DTL) of the Property Commercial and Development (PCD) Law Team in providing a high quality legal service primarily working in the area of Development Law (Planning Highways and Licensing) in a wide range of matters; receiving guidance and supervision from the TL and DTL and support from colleague lawyers where appropriate. The successful candidate will be required to provide a professional legal service, exercise professional judgment and make all day-to-day operational decisions on allocated matters and cases in the context of legal advice and assistance given to council officers and the Councils elected members and is expected to influence and negotiate with contacts both internal and external to the Council. Contacts will include officers at Chief Executive level and below, portfolio holders, elected members, regulatory bodies, other council staff, private practice solicitors and barristers and other professionals involved primarily in the area of work of development law matters and to give appropriate advice and assistance to officers and members in the matters allocated to the post holder. From time to time the post holder may be required to assist in the other areas of work of the PCD legal team in response to the requirements placed on the Councils Legal Service. The post holder will be a solicitor entitled to practice in England and holding a current practicing certificate, a barrister entitled to practice in England and holding a current practicing certificate or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. To achieve PO5-6 the post –holder will require at least 5 years’ experience of development law matters, gained while practicing as a solicitor, barrister; less than 5 years may be acceptable for an outstanding candidate.
