Overview

Carer / Residential Care Assistant / Health Care Worker who has excellent communication skills, experience of working in a team and the ability to remain calm and in control when under pressure is required for a new purpose built in-patient hospice based in Maidenhead, Berkshire. This is a new purpose built in-patient hospice to enable provision of care for patients requiring palliative or end of life care. JOB OVERVIEW We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Carer /Residential Care Assistant / Health Care Worker who has excellent communication skills, experience of working in a team and the ability to remain calm and in control when under pressure. As the Carer /Residential Care Assistant / Health Care Worker you will report to the In-Patient Unit (IPU) Sister and assist in the delivery of care for patients in the hospice requiring palliative or end of life care. Working as the Carer /Residential Care Assistant / Health Care Worker you will be willing to complete the Care Certificate qualification once in post (if not done so already). DUTIES Your duties as the Carer /Residential Care Assistant / Health Care Worker: • Ensure that the IPU service delivers an excellent standard of care to patients and their families • Offer timely and individual direct care based on patient need • Monitor patients for symptoms and provide non-pharmacological relief where possible, referring for senior advice when required • Communicate fully and effectively with patients, their families and professional colleagues to ensure a safe and needs-led care pathway • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a co-ordinated and defined management plan/plan of care for each patient • Maintain accurate healthcare records, written and computer based, liaising with community colleagues and in line with organisational policy and professional requirements • Support and work with the IPU Sisters and staff nurses to develop and maintain effective communication links with members of the multi-disciplinary team • Help ensure the IPU is well stocked and tidy • Report accidents, incidents and complaints in area of responsibility as per procedure, participating in investigations as required • Work to the processes for role boundaries and patient confidentiality • Maintain personal and professional development CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS • Experience of working in a team of people (this may have been at school / college or another job) • Able to develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues • Willing to complete the Care Certificate qualification once in post (if not done so already) • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to enable effective communication about relevant topics with patients and colleagues, including accurately documenting patient records • Willingness and ability to demonstrate commitment to the Company’s values • Ability to organise own workload and (after training) to prioritise care needs of a patient • Able to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, carers and families • Able to remain calm and in control when under pressure and have knowledge of when to refer for senior advice • Enthusiastic, committed and able to use initiative • Reliable and trustworthy • Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook • Post holder will be immunised for Hepatitis B, MMR, Tuberculosis and Chickenpox HOW TO APPLY APPLICATION PROCESS: Once you’ve applied via this site, we will email over some extra details regarding the application process that you will need to complete as soon as possible.
