Overview

Development Chemist The company currently manufactures a wide range of products for various markets, including wood treatments, automotive cleaning products and industrial blends. This role is not suitable for a recent graduate. The main purpose of this role would be research and development of wood treatments, stains and paints specifically for exterior wood. This includes formulating new products to expand and improve the current range and improving the current products by re-formulation and re-sourcing raw materials. The aim of the role is growth of the company through expansion of the Company's product base and market sector. The responsibilities of this Development Chemist would include: Innovation and development of new products. Managing formulation projects from laboratory through customer trials to full-scale manufacture. Troubleshooting any issues arising during the manufacturing process. Analysis of current/future markets for development. Competitor product analysis. Existing product evaluation and formulation modification as required. Source, test and approve raw materials for new and existing products. Liaising with suppliers as required. Preparing samples of products for customer approval. Assisting when required with day to day lab duties including quality control of blends, including but not limited to; viscosity, pH and colour testing. Skills and experience required: Candidates with experience in the production of coatings, colours, dyes and pigments will be looked upon favourably. BSc (preferably 1st or 2:1) or higher in chemistry or relevant scientific discipline Experience in formulation and development of coatings. The ability to manage and progress projects. The ability to guide the company in terms of innovation and suggestions to move the company forward. Full driving licence Good understanding of current regulations, e.g. REACH, CLP. Working hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 4pm on Fridays. Flexibility with hours will be required according to workload deadlines.
