Overview

This international law firm has a history going back to the 1930s. It is now a leading and award-winning firm with a client base encompassing some of the best names in retail, banking, real estate, sports and utilities. They are now looking to hire a DAC6 Lawyer/Advisor on a permanent basis. The role will be working in the Finance & Accounting, Partnership Tax team. Responsibilities Advancing and protecting the vital interests and reputation of the firm. Leading thinking on DAC6 compliance and risk management. Preparing guidance documentation and general know how in respect of transactions/arrangements falling within the specific DAC6 hallmarks. Working with our IT team and/or a third-party provider and the OGC to implement and over time, enhance, a technical compliance solution. Being the main point of contact internally for technical enquiries on whether or not an arrangement is potentially within scope for disclosure and the practical implications of that. Working closely with the OGC in preparing for the Firm to meet its obligations in relation to historic matters. Insofar as disclosures cannot be made due to privilege, advising on appropriate notifications to other advisors and/or the client. Working with the OGC to devise a process to be embedded within the Firm’s existing processes for matter opening, billing etc. to allow the firm to comply with "real time" 30 day DAC 6 reporting requirements as from July 2020. This will involve considering options for development in-house and how the process will be set up. Liaising with tax lawyers across our EU offices to keep up to date on latest developments including the detail of implementing legislation, guidance notes from tax authorities etc. Considering and advising upon technical differences across jurisdictions and working to implement processes to take these into account. Reviewing and auditing DAC6 compliance decisions. Educating partners and fee earners on DAC6 issues via communications and training. Liaising with representative bodies in respect of issues or concerns to the firm. Representing the firm at external conferences or other stakeholder events. Responsible for managing the DAC 6 reporting process, requests for additional information from tax authorities and in certain cases notifications to applicable intermediaries/partners. Preparing reports for the Management Committee and/or the Audit and Risk Committee on key risk issues/compliance. Working with the Partnership Tax team to ensure that the firm’s global tax compliance obligations are met and assisting with projects as they arise. Candidate Profile Strong technical tax skills Experience of partnership tax advisory work, ideally in an international professional services environment Qualified lawyer or accountant with working knowledge of privilege Working knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the DAC 6 Directive Broad working knowledge of CRS and FATCA Experience in design, implementation or management of any technology-based compliance systems and processes Important Notice It is Career Legal’s policy, as a matter of courtesy, to respond to all applications within three working days.
