Overview

Economic Director, Ofcom Salary range: £100,000 - £150,000 Location: London and Edinburgh Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications sector. We regulate TV and radio, fixed line and mobile telecoms, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate, always with the aim of furthering the interests of UK citizens and consumers. Ofcom also expects to regulate online harms in the future, including protecting adults and children from harmful content from social media giants. Designing effective ways to achieve this is a new and exciting challenge. Economics is central to Ofcom’s work. With a team of over 60 people, Ofcom’s Economics Group is one of the largest in the competition and regulation economics profession. As an Economic Director at Ofcom, you will be part of the senior management team, having an influential leadership role across Ofcom. You will be responsible for directing the economic input across a portfolio of projects, taking ultimate responsibility for ensuring the economic analysis is of the highest standard, especially on the most challenging and high priority projects. You will be an expert in competition and regulatory economics, with excellent academic qualifications and a proven track record of providing the highest quality economic advice. You will defend Ofcom’s economic analysis in adversarial settings, including as an expert witness, and will have the gravitas to represent Ofcom with senior leaders within industry and showcase Ofcom’s work within the economics profession. You will also have an excellent track record of building and leading successful teams, being able to inspire and develop people, helping them to thrive.
