Harris Acadmey Orpington are looking for a dedicated and inspirational Geography Teacher. Your Opportunity: To play a crucial role in developing and adapt the classroom curriculum to meet students’ needs and ensuring that students develop a depth and love of the subject To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students To make sure all students develop a deep and connected knowledge and skills of the subject In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, during this period it is our intention to continue with critical recruitment for key positions starting in September 2020. In place of academy interviews, alternative options will be offered so that no one is at a disadvantage, and applicants should expect telephone or virtual interviews, with the possibility of onsite academy interviews only in special cases. What we are looking for: A qualified teacher (holding QTS or equivalent and a relevant undergraduate degree) to teach across KS3 and KS4, and who has excellent subject knowledge A committed practitioner, who will want to attain the highest standards in teaching and learning and who will expect excellence from the students A collaborative and motivated individual who will lead the subject through a variety of innovative approaches including curriculum design, teaching strategies, use of technology and intervention programmes As part of our academy, your responsibilities will be: To assist in the development of appropriate schemes of work, resources marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject area To ensure that the classroom curriculum is well planned and logically sequenced to help students learn the subject To contribute to the subject area’s Development Plan and its implementation. To undertake an allocated programme of teaching (the timetable) To ensure the delivery of a curriculum that is well sequenced and implemented effectively To engage actively in the Performance Management Review process To communicate effectively with all stakeholders involved with the academy To follow agreed policies for communications in the academy, including the use of technology To play a full part in the life of the academy community, to support its distinctive aim and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example. This includes open evening and academy events To comply with the academy’s Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate Who we are looking for: We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London and helping create exceptional places of learning. The successful applicant will be: A well-qualified specialist holding DfE recognised Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree A successful teacher with the ability to teach across key stages 3 and 4 An understanding of theory and practice of effective teaching and learning Knowledge and experience of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students work The ability to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with teaching and other support staff The ability to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students The ability to communicate positively with parents/carers and where appropriate outside agencies in a way that facilitates effective links between home and school Good communication skills both writing and speaking Ability to lead and manage own work effectively and take responsibility for own professional development Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines under pressure Ability to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies e.g. assessment for learning Passion for teaching own subject specialism Flexible, adaptable, results orientated and able to prioritise, resilient under pressure Awareness of and commitment to equal opportunities and valuing diversity NEXT STEPS Please download the job pack for a full job description and person specification.
