We are looking for Audit Seniors/Assistant Managers with public sector specialist audit knowledge to join our team in Central Scotland (Glasgow or Edinburgh) as we are experiencing tremendous growth. You can expect plenty of autonomy in this role, so you will need the ability to take initiative and seek out opportunities to improve our current relationships and processes. We have invested heavily to build our Government & Public Sector (GPS) audit service line, and this investment aligns with our firm objective of “Building a Better Working World”. Members of our GPS audit team are responsible for delivering the work on our public sector clients that comprise Local Government, Health, Housing, Higher Education and charitable organisations. We are now one of the largest providers of public sector audit in the UK with: A growing team of 240 skilled and qualified audit specialists with an excellent knowledge of public sector challenges and thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and applicable professional standards. Specialist information and documentation tools to ensure our teams can efficiently and effectively deliver their responsibilities and meet our clients’ high expectations. A dedicated public sector technical support network to provide our teams with the professional infrastructure they need to respond to central government accounting or audit issues and to deliver our engagements. The opportunity With opportunities based in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office, you’ll help our clients meet their reporting requirements and providing meaningful insights into accounting and reporting matters. Your key responsibilities Everything you do will come back to providing exceptional audit service for our clients, with colleagues and clients from a diverse array of backgrounds. You'll also be introduced to career challenges that will take you into exciting new professional territory. Your goal will be to help clients achieve their potential - and you can expect to do the same. Leading fieldwork, managing performance and keeping engagement leads updated on audit engagements. Ensuring engagements are executed in accordance with the firm's methodologies and guidance, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. Completing audit processes and documenting higher-risk areas to increase your technical and business skills. Engaging clients and demonstrating professionalism throughout the process. Constantly developing your understanding of public sector service developments and sharing your knowledge to develop junior colleagues. Understanding our clients’ unique statutory responsibilities, ambitions and needs and referring them to other teams and areas to broaden the business insight we provide. Skills and attributes for success Leading fieldwork, managing performance and keeping engagement leaders updated on audit engagements Completing audit processes and documenting higher-risk areas to increase your technical and business skills Engaging clients and providing authoritative advice and professionalism throughout transactions Constantly developing your understanding of current market trends and processes and sharing your knowledge to develop junior colleagues Understanding our clients’ unique ambitions and needs and referring them to colleagues in other teams and areas to broaden our business relationships where possible To qualify for the role you must have ACA/CA/ACCA (ICAEW, ICAS, Irish Institute or equivalent international qualification) -preferably first time passes Significant experience leading the planning, execution and reporting on audits Proven project management skills Excellent communication and negotiation skills and a collaborative approach to management Proven experience in delivering external audit and assurance engagements.
