Overview

AMG Superalloys UK Limited is a producer of specialist metals based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. We produce high purity chromium alongside a number of other alloys, and also offer laboratory services. We currently have an opportunity for a Sales Executive to join our world-class organisation, in a global sales role which requires travel within the UK, EU and other international markets. Our Role Based in Rotherham, the role reports to our Commercial Director, and is a blend between selling forward, long-term agreements and shifting "spot-priced" capacity. "Knowing your numbers" is a key indicator - i.e. sales versus plan, where they need to be, what needs to be done. Selling metal is complex and sophisticated - price and availability of the input material changes by the hour, capacity of the plant fluctuates according to both the volume of throughput and variety of the throughput, and the output price and demand changes as quickly as the input. Candidates must be resilient and have a strong self-starting nature, as during the "spot selling" phase you must find customers who urgently need materials or are prepared to buy at the right price, and this is tough. There is also a requirement for an opposite sales technique, involving long-term account management, relationship-building and creating a service level orientated agreement that has complex influences of the materials market taken into account. As the inputs and outputs influence the sales process and price more directly than most businesses, the involvement of the entire team and their input into the Sales Executive's plan needs to be recognised more heavily than a typical sales role. The pace of our business can be fast and complex, with steep learning curves which, for the right individual, will be a rewarding and fulfilling opportunity to develop a career within our commercial function. Key Duties Develop/maintain and improve business relations with all customers of the Company, and within the Company Seek out and target new customers and new sales opportunities, initiate action plans to approach and secure new business for the Company Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts Represent the Company at business meetings and trade associations to promote products Have an excellent working knowledge of Company systems - to be on top of the numbers (for an initial period in role focus will be on inside sales to learn the systems and in house business trackers) The successful candidate will have enthusiasm to learn new things, travel to new places and have the ability to interact with and learn from everybody they meet - from customers to colleagues and functional experts and management. Skills and Qualities Candidates should have the following: Commercial judgements - both in terms of selling price and the impact of market movements Experience of selling a commodity or similar product, and practice creating differentiation for products in this market Experience of selling long-term agreements and managing long-term relationship with the customers Excellent communication skills - internally and externally Empathy with customers' objectives and desires Desire to grow yourself and your business area, with a high need for achievement and desire to succeed Education or experience to degree level (within materials/applied science an advantage) Creating annual increases in sales values Agreeing to and meeting sales forecasts Confident computer skills Excellent time management skills, and ability to work under own direction Full clean UK driving licence To be successful, candidates will need to: Be able to retain good attention to detail, while maintaining awareness of the bigger picture Be able to demonstrate leadership capability, with resilience, receptivity and ownership for own work and development Work with energy and speed, staying adaptable and highly organised, self-starting and effective time-management Be a confident communicator, with an analytical approach Think big and grow fast, addressing challenges and building credibility with customers and colleagues alike Salary and Benefits: £30,000 - £45,000 per annum, depending on experience Car allowance Generous pension scheme Private healthcare scheme 25 days holiday, plus statutory holidays, per annum
