At AECOM, our Water specialists work together worldwide to find innovative solutions to the management of water. We provide technical expertise and solutions for projects across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. We are looking for a Structural Engineering Graduate in Exeter to join our growing Water, Ports and Power structures and heavy civil engineering design team. This team carries out the structural design of schemes involving large infrastructure, below ground structures, shafts and retaining walls. Our Water Engineering graduates have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working on a variety of local, national and global projects alongside a multitude of different disciplines. Our graduates are encouraged to develop their understanding of many elements within the water industry, such as hydraulic, structural and environmental design through calculations, report writing and use of engineering software. You will work alongside our experienced engineers as you develop these within a positive culture where learning and development is actively supported and promoted. A recent project example is the Durleigh WTW reconstruction project. This BIM Level 2 project involved the design of numerous complex water-retaining structures included a secant piled below ground low level pumping station and clean backwash tank. A new treatment building consisted of a large below ground piled concrete slab with a portal framed structure over, housing gantry cranes and welfare facilities. The project also required the inspection, assessment and refurbishment/ modification of existing structural assets. This included the re-use of existing waste water tanks as a new sludge and waste water area through the addition of new internal concrete dividing walls and roof slabs. Responsibilities will include but not limited to: + Undertake structural design and analysis using computer-based programmes such as TEKLA, SCIA, and TEDDS + Undertake technical and feasibility studies to appraise the practicability of alternative solutions in aspects such as large infrastructure, below ground structures, shafts and retaining walls + Undertake structural analysis and design such as large infrastructure, below ground structures, shafts and retaining walls + Undertaking site investigations and information gathering, and inspecting existing assets for future designs + Producing sketches, check and consolidate final working drawings created by others + Keeping up-to-date with developments in regulatory legislation and guidelines that may affect design work + Working with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management Minimum Requirements + BEng in Structural or Civil Engineering (with structural modules), with minimum 2:2 classification (or equivalent). An MSc in Civil, Coastal or Geotechnical Engineering would be considered but must have a structural element + Must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in developing a career in Structural Engineering + Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive + Basic computer skills essential (Word/Excel) and good report writing skills beneficial + Willing and able to work towards Membership of either the IStructE or ICE + Communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing + Structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole + Ability to work independently without losing initiative & focus Preferred Qualifications + MEng in Civl or Structural Engineering would be an advantage + Relevant or transferable structural work experience would be an advantage What We Offer When you join AECOM, you become part of a company that is pioneering the future .
