Hermes ,
Rugby, Warwickshire

Overview

Job Description

Because of our growth over the last seven years and the growth we are experiencing now, we want to invest in our future by employing a new generation of drivers through our Road to Logistics training and development programme. If you were successful you would work out of one of our two Super Hubs at Rugby and Warrington. As one of our Apprentice Hub Drivers, you will work through a structured training programme where you will shadow more experienced Drivers, whilst gaining experience driving Hermes vehicles increasing in weight class and size starting at 7.5 tonnes and moving up to 44 tonnes as you work through the programme. There is a shortfall in LGV (class 1) / C+E drivers across the country so this is a great opportunity to secure your future with a fantastic Business You will be supported all the way through your journey by the Hermes driver training team who are based at both sites and available twenty four hours a day Initially, you will work as one of our "Flyer" Van drivers, delivering and collecting parcels from our depot network in one of our 3.5 tonne vehicles as you work towards your next licence. As our business is a 24 hour operation, and a lot of our key movements happen overnight, the role will ABSOLUTELY involve working on a shift pattern that includes night working. This will be a key part of the role and is not something that we can change for individual cases. When working on nights your start time will be flexible but is likely to be between 10pm and 2am. When working on days your start time will be flexible but is likely to be between 6am and 10am. (these times are not 100% guaranteed but are provided here to give you an idea of our working patterns). As you progress, you will drive our vehicles between our Hubs to our client's distribution sites, from our Hubs to our Depots and potentially from our Depots to sub-Depots. So a good understanding of the challenges of driving a large vehicle in a range of road conditions from motorways, city driving and smaller roads. We don't expect you to have experience of driving large vehicles but if you have driven large vans on a normal licence, that would be an advantage. As well as the hands-on training at Rugby and Warrington, you will also receive support in gaining your DCPC qualification and gain a real understanding of transport law and safe ways of working as an LGV (class 1) / C+E driver. You'll be one of 12 Hub Driver Apprentices this year, so you'll have peers to help you through the programme and hopefully new mates by the end of it. This is a great opportunity to grow your skills and experience whilst earning a really competitive starting rate of £9.09 per hour increasing to £11.05 per hour (on days) and £12.00 per hour (on nights) once you have completed Road to Logistics and gained your licences.
