We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic Group Leader to support a team of Development Scientists. This team will work alongside and support a leading world class company that develops and produces consumer products within the Personal Care and Home Care arena. This exciting new role, which is based at our client’s modern state of the art facility in Liverpool, will give the successful candidate a fantastic opportunity to combine leadership, analytical and equipment innovation, alongside career development opportunities within our award winning Eurofins Professional Scientific Services programme.

The purpose of this job is to manage and support a team, ensuring the team is operating at the highest quality and productivity standards, have high morale and retention, and the agreed client requirements are entirely satisfied and that client expectations are met or exceeded through effective leadership and quality operational management and process improvement. The Group Leader will be a key point of contact for the client. In addition to the leadership role the successful applicant shall also support the development of new product formulations through the use of high throughput automated systems and assist with the evaluation of the performance across different platforms.

In addition, the candidate will also have strong logistic and technical skills as well as report writing, problem solving skills. It is expected the ideal candidate will work in a flexible manner exhibiting high energy, self-motivation and resourcefulness. Additionally, will be able to think logically and have the ability to effectively collaborate with and communicate scientific ideas readily.

Education / Experience / Skills

* Degree or above in a relevant scientific discipline (physical science, pharmacy, pharmacology, or related physical or biological science area)

* A minimum of 5 years’ Experience in performance evaluation of technologies/formulations within Personal Care and Home Care would be desirable and 1 year or more experience in a managerial role supporting a team is essential including conducting performance appraisal.

* Ability to organise, Schedule and Plan requests from multiple clients to be progressed utilizing various automated platforms with in line and off line detection systems

* Relevant practical lab skills are essential, as well as experience of key analytical techniques LC, GC/MS and SFC as well as DSC, DVS, DMA and TGA, SEM and Raman spectroscopy would be desirable

* A keen interest in automated systems and their functionality would be advantageous.

* Experience in performance evaluation of technologies/formulations within Personal Care and Home Care would be desirable

* Experience and understanding of reviewing and implementing Design of Experiments and progression of automated runs including statistics and evaluate data to test hypotheses.

* Proven ability to manage Logistics, COSHH, Safety and be able to work flexibly.

* Excellent verbal and written skills, both internally and externally. Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues driving collaboration.

* Ability to maintain operational effectiveness of automated equipment and monitor / report intervention detail and frequency thereby off setting down time.

* Previous experience in the preparation and review and revision of area documentation e.g. SOP's, Reports, and Protocols would be desirable.

* Prior experience of mentoring and training of personnel would be beneficial.

* Experience of delivering process improvement would be desirable.
