Head of Classics

QUEENS COLLEGE LONDON ,
London, Greater London
Job Type: Full-time

Overview

This is an opportunity to join one of the most high-achieving and forward-looking independent schools in London. We are looking for an outstanding Head of Classics to lead our thriving Classics department at this over-subscribed, academically selective school for girls aged 11 to 18. Queen’s College, London is seeking to appoint a well-qualified and inspirational classroom practitioner as Head of Classics. This is a crucial position of responsibility: the person appointed will provide academic leadership of the department and will work closely with the senior leadership team as part of our commitment to academic excellence. Classical Studies lessons (including Latin) are a compulsory part of the curriculum in Years 7, 8 and 9. Latin is a popular GCSE and A-level choice at Queen’s, with our pupils achieving top grades each year. Many of our A-level candidates choose to continue the subject at university. Our central London location is a huge advantage for the Classics department as our students can easily undertake trips to a wide array of museums, exhibitions, galleries and theatres during the school day; and even during their regular curriculum lessons. The Classics department at Queen’s has a strong tradition of performance in the original language and we also host a popular annual Classics Speaking Competition, which is attended by a large number of schools. Applications should be made on the Queen’s College application form and sent to the Assistant Bursar by e-mail (rhallqcl.org.uk). Applications must reach the College by midday on Wednesday 1 April 2020. Queen’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
